Business Rules

Who IS required to be classified through the Contractor Classification Process?

  1. Independent Contractor, Freelancer, Consultant - An individual who typically is set up and operating as a separate business. They are not affiliated with an agency/consulting firm. They will receive a 1099 Tax Form for services rendered. For further assistance, please contact Karen Gilbert at (650) 944-2876.
  2. Corporations, LLC or Partnerships – Company with fewer than three (3) full time (W-2) employees and they inform you they are set up and operating as a separate business.  For further assistance, please contact Karen Gilbert at karen_gilbert@intuit.com or (650) 944-2876.

Who does NOT need to be classified through the Contractor Classification Process?

  1. Agency Contractor - A specific individual who is provided by an agency/consulting firm that specializes in supplying contractors/consultants upon request. For further assistance, please contact Isabelle Teller, TalentWave Account Manager (650) 944-3892.

  2. Vendor Service Provider - A vendor that provides individuals in order to perform a service that is usually part of a service contract or provides various consultants to meet their contractual agreement deliverables. For example: KPMG or Oracle consultants. For further assistance, please contact Steve Scott at (858) 525-7756.

Who should be Payrolled and should NOT complete the Contractor Classification Process?

  1. Any former full time Intuit employee who received a W-2 Tax Form from Intuit in the last 12 months.

  2. Any Temporary, FlexForce or Contract worker:

    i. who is not properly set up or operating as a separate business.

    ii. who is not from an agency / consulting firm / corporation and would not classify as an Independent Contractor.

    iii. who would like to receive a regular paycheck and the option of full benefits.
